Help keeping Foxes from your Poultry

  • Hang human hair around the pen at six feet intervals, foxes don't like the smell.
  • Urinate at regular intervals around the pen as this marks your territory.
  • Walk around the pen a few times every every night, again leaving your smell.
  • You can have a dog and keep it in a kennel outside, there is nothing wrong with this as most dogs like to be outside and have some freedom.
  • We have had foxes get their mouths through a hole as big as a tennis ball a kill a chicken!
  • You can bury chicken wire a 1-2 foot down around your pen.
  • We use grooved roofing tiles buried along the fence as these go down around a foot and lock together.
  • Also lay them in front of the pen and coop to protect from digging, this has the added bonus of a good walking surface which drains well and is non-slip as the mud and water stays in the deep grooves.
